Kol Nidrei in Nikolsburg, 1775: An Early Account of a Hasidic Sermon

Abstract Descriptions of the delivery Hasidic sermons are relatively rare, especially from first decades development movement. This article presents earliest extant written account a sermon, which was delivered by Samuel Shmelke Horowitz, rabbi Moravian city Nikolsburg (Mikulov), on eve Yom Kippur year 1775. It situates document containing this hitherto overlooked in its historical and ideological context explores light it sheds geographical limits movement 18th century.
